This project brief provides an overview of the Restoring Landscapes in South Africa (ReLISA) project, a five-year initiative led by UNEP and partners. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The brief outlines the project’s objectives to restore 100,000 hectares of degraded grassland, savanna, and thicket ecosystems, strengthen climate resilience, and conserve biodiversity in key water catchments. It also highlights ReLISA’s approach to mobilising investment, advancing gender equality, and creating green jobs, while contributing to South Africa’s climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development goals.
